The mission objectiveÌýis to study theÌýeffects ofÌýtheÌýradiationÌýshieldedÌýenvironmentÌýandÌýalteredÌýgravityÌýonÌýtheÌýgerminationÌýandÌýgrowth ofÌýWisconsin Fast Plants AstroPlants (Brassica Rapa). The system will germinate, grow,Ìýmonitor,ÌýandÌýharvestÌý20ÌýplantsÌýwithinÌýaÌýfullyÌýenclosedÌýgreenhouseÌýburiedÌý3ÌýmetersÌýunder lunarÌýregolithÌýatÌýanÌýArtemisÌýIIIÌýlandingÌýsiteÌýnearÌýtheÌýlunarÌýsouthÌýpole.
To meet missionÌýrequirements, theÌýgreenhouse shall operateÌýautonomously for 15 days whileÌýmaintaining a controlled environment toÌýensureÌýplantÌýhealth.ÌýIt mustÌýbeÌýcompact enough for deploymentÌýby a singleÌýastronautÌýduring an EVA and assembled using tools availableÌýatÌýtheÌýArtemisÌýBaseÌýCamp.ÌýTheÌýsystemÌýwillÌýcontinuouslyÌýmonitorÌýenvironmental andÌýplantÌýhealthÌýparameters,ÌýincludingÌýOâ‚‚,ÌýCOâ‚‚,Ìýtemperature,Ìýhumidity,ÌýandÌýsoilÌýmoisture, while transmitting telemetry and science data to a nearby ground station every four hours.
TheÌýplannedÌýdesignÌýdeliverableÌýisÌýaÌýfunctionalÌýprototypeÌýofÌýtheÌýgreenhouseÌýsystem, demonstrating feasibility for future lunar agricultural missions.
