Get Seed Funding

Get Seed Funding (GSF)Ìýis a ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ program, hosted by the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative, that provides micro-funding for undergraduate and graduate studentsÌýwith entrepreneurial ideas in the making. Run by a student-led team, GSF hosts weekly pitch sessionsÌýwhere applicants present their ideas and can be awarded up to $500 in seed fundingÌýto move projects forward. Applications are accepted on a rolling basisÌýand reviewed by the GSF team, making it easy to jump in at any stage of your journey.

Have an idea—or see a problem you can solve?ÌýGSF can help you take your vision from concept to action, fast! By lowering barriers and providing funding support, the program empowers you to experiment, innovate, and gain the confidence, skills, and momentum to succeed.

How does it work?

  1. Apply online any time during the fall or spring semesterÌý(applications submitted during summer will be reviewed the following fall).
  2. The Get Seed Funding student team will review your application virtually
  3. IfÌýyour application meets the criteria, you’ll be invited to deliver an in-person pitchÌýto the team
  4. Be prepared for a 5-minute pitch with 5 minutes for Q/A.
  5. Funding amount will be determined based on the strength of your idea/presentation and the milestones you would like to achieve

What CAN be funded?

Here are a few examples of expenses GSF can cover:

  • Prototyping materialsÌý(hardware, building supplies, 3D printing filament, fabric, tools)
  • Market research & customer discoveryÌý(food for focus groups, printing costs for flyers, survey tools)
  • Business development essentialsÌý(domain name, business cards, software, website design tools)ely to receive funding unless there is an outstanding reason why seed funding will help your business flourish.

What can not be funded?

  • Travel, salaries, and one-time or promotional events
  • Hiring contractors (e.g., designers, developers) or renting/purchasing office space
  • Equipment and items not essential to the business, like laptops or cell phones
  • Note:ÌýIf your venture has already generated $1,000+ in profit, you’re still welcome to pitch, but funding is less likely unless you can demonstrate a compelling reason additional seed money will help your business grow.
