The Mechanical Engineering communication and external relations team is seeking research story ideas that may be a good fit for EurekAlert and broader media pitching.

ÌýIf your lab has recently published a high-impact paper, or is scheduled to in the near future, please reach out to Alexander Servantez or with a summary of the work and some times throughout the week you are available.

The (IEEE GHTC 2025) is an international conference sharing effective approaches, best practices, and practical and/or scholarly technology-enabled interventions that address the needs of underserved communities in resource-constrained environments around the world. This cross-disciplinary conference provides the perfect venue for those interested in humanitarian engineering to join their peers in October 2025 at the Colorado School of Mines.

Early conference registration is open until September 30. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to Grace Burleson, who is the technical program co-chair for GTHC this year.

The Mechanical Engineering Graduate Committee is now accepting nominations for the Mechanical Engineering Outstanding Dissertation Award. Any ME student completing the requirements for a PhD during the nomination year is eligible for this award. The student selected for this award will be the department's nominee for the college-level dissertation award.

PhD students should be nominated by their faculty advisor. Complete nominations are due on Monday, September 29 by 5 p.m.. Please email nominations and/or any questions regarding required materials or criteria to Anna Guy.

The Research and Innovation Office is hosting an engaging panel featuring leaders from the energy and manufacturing industries alongside ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ researchers as they share candid stories of collaboration—what worked, what didn’t, and lessons learned along the way. Through these real-world tales, you’ll gain practical insights and best practices to help you navigate and optimize your own research partnerships.

Industry leaders from companies such as 3M, Chevron and Lockheed Martin will be apart of the panel. The event will be on Thursday, October 9 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the University Memorial Center.

Mechanical Engineering Strategic Advisory Board (MESAB) member Dana Shinn has donated funds to the ME department for MS students who need support paying for travel to a conference or similar professional development event.

This funding will be given to facilitate educational and professional development through conference participation by MS students presenting a paper or poster, or attendance at a conference or similar professional development event.

Students must be pursuing a mechanical engineering MS (BAM included) degree to be eligible. They can apply for these awards . The deadline to apply is Wednesday, October 15 at 5 p.m. MT.
