Honors & Awards
- Debbie Yeh, area director of undergraduate advising for the mechanical engineering and electrical, computer and energy engineering departments, has been awarded the 2022 chancellor’s Employee of the Year Award.
- Ahmed Ashmaig (MechEngr'23), the president of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓÆµ's chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), has received the university's Ripple Award. The award is given by the ÌÒÉ«ÊÓÆµ's Center for Inclusion and Social Change in collaboration with the Dennis Small Cultural Center.
- Four graduating undergraduate students won college awards, while three undergraduate students were honored with Department of Mechanical Engineering Awards.
- The Graduate School is pleased to recognize 18 dedicated faculty members who received this year’s outstanding faculty mentor awards. The nomination materials showcased their many contributions in mentoring graduate students and supporting the mission of graduate education.
- The National Science Foundation has awarded two Paul M. Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering students with Graduate Research Fellowships and two students with honorable mentions.
- Department Chair Michael Hannigan and Research Associate Daniel Knight will be using the $24,000 grant to expand their outreach program that engages K-12 students to conduct their own soil quality research.
- The Marinus Smith Award recognizes faculty and staff members who have had a particularly positive impact on our students. Debbie Yeh, the Area Director in Student Support & Advising Services, was nominated for the award by mechanical engineering undergraduate student Dario Garcia.
- Karina Andersen, Jace Aschbrenner, Davis Butte and Valerie Welch are among the 49 student-athletes who were honored at the 30th Annual Student-Athlete Academic Recognition. Ky Ecton, a senior on the women's tennis team who is also a Mechanical Engineering major, lettered for the fourth time this spring and spoke at the event.
- The Division of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering recognized Martinez's research on membrane technologies that can ensure more scientifically reliable water treatment filtration systems.
- Senior design team Urchin Merchants, who placed fourth, hope to market a specialized suction device to divers and conservation groups that could help save kelp forests off the coast of California and ecosystems around the world from exploding purple sea urchin populations.
