Reckoning with local and national events: We are here for you
Sept. 12, 2025
Dear ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ faculty, staff, and students:
Today, our campus suffered a second false emergency reporting incident when Norlin Library and neighboring buildings Ketchum and Ramaley were evacuated due to a false bomb threat. The impact of this incident –– itself coming directly on the heels of local and national acts of violence –– only adds to feelings of fear, anxiety, and doubt that are impacting members of the community in varying ways, and at a moment when students, faculty, and staff are trying to enjoy a successful start to the fall semester.
Our campus responded quickly. CUPD K-9 units were deployed, Norlin was carefully searched, CUPD determined the bomb threat was not credible, and the evacuation order was lifted at 1:14 p.m. Norlin Library closed for the rest of the day, but students were able to collect their belongings once the building was cleared. For any who were not able to collect their belongings today, Norlin will be open during normal hours on Saturday and staff will be ready to reunite students with their belongings.
As with the swatting incident two weeks ago, Norlin staff and campus first responders acted quickly and in concert to evacuate Norlin and adjacent buildings and manage the emergency. Their performance was exemplary, and we are grateful for the urgency and care shown. Likewise, students, faculty, and staff in the emergency footprint responded well to the evacuations, and we were able to continue classes today. Please note: CU affiliates who did not receive an alert and think they should have, should check their settings following the and for available on the website.
Impact on our community
Buffs, it is important that we come together now. Our campus has confronted local and national tragedies and emergencies since our founding, and it’s important we continue to do so, together. We can do this by creating the most mutually supportive, caring, and compassionate environment we can, making use of our resources to care for ourselves when we need them and supporting others as we each process events and impacts in our own ways.
Please lean into our campus resources in the coming days, weeks, and months as you may need them. For students, Counseling and Psychiatric Services is available 24/7 by calling 303-492-2277. For faculty and staff, the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program is available to offer support. The Office of Victim Assistance (OVA) also provides free, confidential trauma-specific counseling for ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ faculty and staff who have experienced a traumatic event. OVA advocate counselors also responded today to offer support to students and employees. More information about support services is available here.
Campus health and safety are top priorities. We are constantly adding measures to make campus safer. Please know that we are also working diligently – in regular times and in times of strife – to support faculty, staff, and students, and we will be there to be strong with you in all the days to come.
In the meantime, we ask that you join us in reaching out to friends, colleagues, and constituents to ensure everyone’s health and well-being are tended to with care and concern. If you have feedback or constructive input for us about these efforts, please send it to: Buffinfo@colorado.edu
