<p>Tweets sent during last year’s massive flooding on Colorado’s Front Range were able to detail the scope of damage to the area’s infrastructure, according to a study by the ��ɫ��Ƶ.</p>
<p>The findings can help geotechnical and structural engineers more effectively direct their reconnaissance efforts after future natural disasters—including earthquakes, tsunamis and tornadoes—as well as provide them data that might otherwise be lost due to rapid cleanup efforts.</p>

<p><span>The public is invited to attend free, Saturday programs led by ��ɫ��Ƶ faculty on popular topics as part of the CU on the Weekend series, which begins Sept. 6.</span></p>
<p>With topics ranging from the sweeping stories behind celebrated musical compositions to the micro-level study of bacteria that uniquely forms each person’s microbiome, CU on the Weekend programs are designed to satisfy the community’s curiosity surrounding some of the intriguing research conducted at CU-Boulder.</p>

<p>The importance of Mars exploration and how the aerospace industry partners with university researchers to advance one of Colorado’s leading economic sectors will be featured at a free program Monday, Sept. 8, in south Denver.</p>

<p>An international research effort organized by the ��ɫ��Ƶ conducted the first multiple, unmanned aircraft interception of a telltale rush of cold air preceding a thunderstorm known as a “gust front” as it rolled across the Pawnee National Grassland in northeast Colorado on Aug. 14.</p>

<p>New students at the ��ɫ��Ƶ will be greeted with dozens of activities including a welcome convocation, a Folsom Field pep rally and a “Global Jam” international food and music fest during Week of Welcome beginning Aug. 21.</p>
<p>The free events give new students a chance to get acquainted with each other, the campus and surrounding community before classes start on Aug. 25. The activities are scheduled in addition to orientation sessions that cover the details of class registration, policies and student services at each college.</p>

<p>The ��ɫ��Ƶ’s Baker Hall, closed the past 15 months for its first major renovation in more than 75 years, is welcoming 456 students next week with a modernized interior that better addresses the needs of today’s students while retaining the building’s original charm.</p>

<p>New and returning students moving into the ��ɫ��Ƶ residence halls can choose which day to move in Aug. 18-21, will swipe Buff OneCards instead of filling out a form to check in and will be able to take advantage of “Quick Drop Stations.” </p>
<p>“We take pride in doing our best to provide a warm welcome and a helping hand for our new and returning students,” said John Fox, associate director of Residence Life. “This year we decided to make some changes in order to make the process as smooth as possible.”</p>

<p>The Senior Auditors Program provides Colorado residents, ages 55 and older, the opportunity to attend classes on the ��ɫ��Ƶ campus. Tuition is free and participants pay just an administrative fee to cover registration, application processing and IT support. The program was established in 1973 and is coordinated through the CU-Boulder Alumni Association.</p>
<p>Course availability is dependent upon enrollment limits, with tuition-paying students given priority, and on fire code restrictions, which determine the number of students allowed in a room. Grades are not awarded and auditors do not receive credit toward a degree.</p>

<p>A genetic sleuthing effort led by the ��ɫ��Ƶ that resulted in the identification of Colorado’s “true” native greenback cutthroat trout two years ago has come full circle with the stocking of the official state fish into Colorado’s high country.</p>

<p>Sierra Nevada Corporation’s (SNC) Space Systems is pleased to announce it is expanding its relationship with the ��ɫ��Ƶ (CU-Boulder) through the signing of a letter of cooperation with CU-Boulder’s BioServe Space Technologies (BioServe). Through the cooperation, SNC and BioServe will jointly explore ways the <em>Dream Chaser</em>® Space Utility Vehicle (SUV) can serve as an orbital platform for scientific experiments in microgravity and space life science research.</p>
