Tang Scholarship

Each summer since 2010, through the ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ Center for Asian Studies, the Tang Fund of New York has financially supported faculty-led Global Seminars that travel to China or Taiwan. All students accepted to the designated Tang-funded programs receive a generous scholarship to cover the majority of the program costs. The scholarship is intended to support students who would otherwise not be able to go to China or Taiwan. See below for a history of all the programs the Tang Fund has supported since it began in 2010. Nearly 200 ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ students have experienced China and Taiwan thanks to the Tang Fund! Read their testimonials on the CAS blog.

The Tang Fund made an original $1.2 million donation to ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ in 2008 to launch the program. Laurel Rodd, the Director of the Center for Asian Studies at the time the gift was made, noted, "Firsthand experience in China can enrich education across all disciplines. It is our hope that by taking advantage of this program, students will gain new perspectives on their areas of study and a deeper understanding of China. The program is unique because it is not restricted to students majoring in Asian Studies and seeks to expose a broad spectrum of students to Chinese culture, and will have a different curriculum and professor each year. Topics covered by the program will include Chinese culture, history, religion, art, politics, environment and other disciplines. The program also differs from traditional study abroad programs in that expenses are covered by the endowed gift."
