BioFrontiers Education
The BioFrontiers Institute is dedicated to the interdisciplinary biology education of the next generation of scientists and engineers.
The complex societal issues of understanding and treating disease, overcoming environmental challenges, and building a better global community require a new kind of scientist: one who can work collaboratively across traditionally siloed disciplines and use emerging technologies and experimental techniques. We train that 21st century scientist through our education programs.
Graduate Education
Interdisciplinary Quantitative Biology
IQ Biology attracts talented and curious students from many fields who are driven to cultivateÌýbiological, computational, and mathematical skills to solve modernÌýproblems. They are unified by a common passion for quantitative biology and thrive in our dynamic and collaborative learning environment.
Student educational backgrounds includeÌýbiology, bioinformatics, chemistry, chemical engineering, computer and electrical engineering,Ìýcomputer science,Ìýecology, mathematics, and physics. Many of our students have previously benefited from interdisciplinary learning through undergraduate minors, double majors, and Master's degree programs.
Prospective and current graduate students can apply to the program.
NIH T32 Training Grant in Biological Data Science

This graduate student opportunity trains students in core principles of data science: data management, analysis, visualization, and effective communication & collaboration.
Other training grants relevant to BioFrontiers graduate students include:
Undergraduate Education
Computational Biology Undergraduate Minor

The CBIO Minor teaches students to combine computational thinking and algorithms to study biological problems and systems. The program prepares students to understand complex biological phenomena and topics including epidemiology, biotechnology, precision medicine and human health, genetics and genomics, environmental systems, data science, and scientific research.
Undergraduate Research Program Opportunity

This Education Abroad Undergraduate Research Program provides ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ students with a summer of research at the University of Regensburg and an opportunity to explore the history and culture of this region of Germany. ÌýThe successful applicants will receive a scholarship to defray a substantial portion of the airfare, tuition, fees, and living expenses for the summer in Regensburg. Visit the Regensburg page for additional information on this scholarship program, andÌýtheÌýÌýfor more information on the overall University of Regensburg exchange program.
