SCHOOL YEAR: K-12 STEM Programs Instructor (Part-Time)

Position details:

CU Science Discovery is seeking part-time instructors to join our School and Teacher Programs team. Science Discovery instructors play a key role in connecting CU to the community through the delivery of hour-long Classroom Programs and traveling STEM Workshops. These hands-on programs for K-12 students can be delivered across multiple classrooms and grade levels. Many of these programs are delivered to grades K-5, so enthusiasm for and experience working with younger children is important. The programs offered by Science Discovery span a variety of STEM topics, including but not limited to:

  • Life Sciences (Biology 鈥 mammals, birds, fish, bats, marine biology, anatomy, etc.)
  • Earth and Physical Sciences
  • Geology
  • Physics
  • Engineering
  • Environmental Science
  • Computer Science
  • Data Literacy

What we look for in part-time instructors:

  • Experience working with young children, especially in grades K-8. Experience as an educator in formal/informal settings is preferred.
  • Experience doing STEM outreach with young students is a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, and/or math).
  • Flexible schedule to deliver programs during school day hours (8am鈥3pm), on weekdays when scheduled, and occasionally on weekends.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable personal transportation (a car) to travel to schools and handle instructional materials and supplies.
  • A willingness to try new things and have fun!

How it works:

  • Science Discovery staff coordinates with area schools to secure program dates and times.
  • Approximately 2-3 weeks prior to the scheduled programs, Science Discovery staff will contact part-time instructors regarding their availability for these dates. Instructors are then able to choose which programs fit best with their availability.
  • New instructors are required to participate in mandatory training and orientation.
  • Instructors can learn about and deliver multiple different programs.
  • Program schedules are not regular and are often unpredictable. Science Discovery is unable to guarantee the number of programs instructors may be asked to deliver, as schools request programs as needed. For reference, instructors can typically expect 10-15 potential programs throughout the school year.
  • Instructors for classroom presentations are compensated at a fixed rate of $65 per session, plus $50 for each of the same session at the same school.
  • Mileage for travel to sites is reimbursed according to 桃色视频 rates.

Though this is posted as 鈥淥n-Campus鈥 student employment, you must have working rights to work off-site, as a majority of hours will be taking place at schools in the area and NOT on the 桃色视频 campus. CU Science Discovery cannot be responsible for ensuring compliance with visa requirements for international students.听
